Study Overview
Please review the AAA STOP research poster from the Cardiovascular Institute retreat poster session in February 2007. It provides a brief overview of each project. The specific aims for each project are listed below.
Project II: Signature Protein Profiles to Identify AAAs
Specific Aim 1:
To develop an antibody-based planar array providing simultaneous abundance measurements for approximately 50 serum markers of inflammation and proteases activitySpecific Aim 2:
To conduct a serum marker study comparing cases with AAA and matched controls to identify protein patterns that correlate with AAA formationSpecific Aim 3:
To conduct a longitudinal prospective study in cases to identify predictors of aneurysm progressionSpecific Aim 4:
To determine protein profiles in patients undergoing active intervention for AAA and determine if beneficial response to therapy can be ascertained
Project III: Rest and Exercise Hemodynamics in AAA Progression
Specific Aim 1:
Quantify time-varying abdominal aortic anatomy in AAA patientsSpecific Aim 2:
Quantify abdominal aortic blood flow at rest and during dynamic exercise using a custom MR-compatible bike in a 0.5T open MRISpecific Aim 3:
Develop and validate computational methods to model blood flow, pressure, and wall motion in “patient-specific” computational models of the abdominal aorta of patients with small AAA randomized to chronic exercise therapy or standard therapy
Project IV: Evaluation of Exercise Therapy for Small AAA
Specific Aim 1A:
Validate lifetime physical activity as an independent AAA disease risk factor
Specific Aim 1B:
Correlate exercise capacity with aortic diameterSpecific Aim 2:
Prospectively evaluate the ability of exercise training to reduce AAA progression
